Annual CFLMT Spring Hike in Toronto
Date and Time:
Sunday, June 5, 2022
10:30 am to 3:00 pm EDT
Canadian Friends of the Lebanon Mountain Trail (CFLMT) and the Bruce Trail Conservancy (BTC) invite you to join us for a hike in the Rouge National Urban Park (RNUP). We plan to hike the Cedar Trail within the RNUP.
The Cedar Trail is 2.2 kilometers in length, plus an approximately 600-metre walk to and from parking. This route follows the sublime main route, with a few nice additions added to complete what has been commonly known as the Cedar Loop for hikers within Rouge National Urban Park. This loop passes numerous small streams with plenty of opportunities for kids to view unique littoral ecosystems, and of course has bridges and trails along the Little Rouge Creek. The Rouge Creek can get quite river-like in the rainy seasons or after large storms and during the spring melt, so users should practise caution if exploring here when the creek is high. This trail will also take users through important wetlands of the Greater Toronto Area, with this area being one of the key areas for cleaning polluted water before it flows into Lake Ontario. Along the route, those new to hiking should watch for steep grades on the trail. Steps and steep sections may be slippery in wet weather, so even though this trail is mostly easy, it can be more difficult depending on the weather.
This hike is designated as mainly easy (with some moderate sections). Please wear the appropriate hiking shoes and bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and bug repellent with you, just in case. We also suggest that you bring a light snack, as we are planning to have lunch together during the hike.
The hike starts promptly at 10:30 a.m. and lasts approximately 2½ hours.
